Maratona dles Dolomites

The Maratona is among the world’s most challenging and iconic gran fondos. Weaving through the spectacular mountains of northern Italy, the ride typically sees 9,000 riders take on over 130km and more than 4,000m of climbing.

Now over 25 years old, the event has grown spectacularly. Its first event in 1987 had just 167 competitors, last year there were three times as many entries as there were places. And a significant proportion (roughly 200 people in 2014) of these cross continents to ride it, these include people from the US, Canada, Australia, Ecuador, Hong Kong and Japan.

In 2014 the ride was listed by The Telegraph newspaper (UK) as being among the world’s five most challenging mass participation rides.
